Harvest, harvest, Harvest! - Bacchus
Posted by Jason Sawyer On 2025-02-04T13:29:15ZWe picked our Bacchus grape on 11 th October. After a bumper crop of 10
tonnes in 2023, this year we faced a more difficult growing experience, most
likely due to the nutrients and energy in the soil being drained from last
year’s harvest. The poor flowering led to significantly smaller bunches and,
as we got nearer to harvesting, botrytis became particularly worrying.
However, we picked without losing too many bunches and the overall harvest
was clean but small which, as expected, was a significant reduction to 2023.
For next year, we are reducing the canes to two on the Bacchus to give them
a rest from the more intensive Scott Henry system we generally use.
